The Best Free Festivals In The U.K

Here at LoanPig, we know that summer budgets sometimes just don’t stretch as much as we want them to! With this in mind, we have put together this blog for you so that you can learn a bit more about the U.K’s best free festivals in 2019. There is a whole host to choose from, and with some festivals in the U.K costing upwards of £200 just for the ticket, attending a free festival is most definitely the most economical option – and with our choices below, you won’t have to compromise on the fun and the experience!

Pride Festivals Galore!

During pride month, and on certain other days throughout the year a specific city or town will turn out in celebration of LGBTQ+ awareness and support. These events happen all across the country (and indeed all over the world) and are guaranteed to be full of life, costumes and music! The London pride festival gets bigger with each passing year and has stalls, live music, parades, floats and much more besides! Expect to pay for some of the features of Brighton pride, however!

Notting Hill Carnival

This world-famous carnival happens each year and is a stellar day out for the whole friendship group or for you and your partner. It is Europe’s biggest street festival and is always alive with performances of all types, dances, and a wide range of different live music that is sure to cater to all tastes and preferences. This event will take place in Notting Hill and the surrounding areas.

Aldeburgh Carnival

If you simply can’t get enough of carnivals, or if this is just one of your favourite celebration types then we would recommend the Aldeburgh carnival. With its amazing seaside location and famous fish and chips, Aldeburgh is able to combine the sea with the carnival spirit expertly! You can expect to see numerous different food stalls (if fish and chips aren’t your things) swimming races as well as some fireworks! This will take place in Aldeburgh, which is in the county of Suffolk.

West End Live

For the west end-lovers, or simply for those who love the theatre then the West End Live free festival may just be made for you! This festival will include live performances from a wide and diverse variety of popular West End shows (including musicals and theatre shows). Expect a truly huge line-up of high quality and expertly executed live performances! This year includes The Phantom of the Opera, Aladdin, Everyone’s Talking About Jamie as well as The Lion King – to name but a handful! This event will be held in and around Trafalgar Square.

Turning Tides Festival

This is a truly unique and totally free festival that is absolutely worth visiting. It will take place on the Greenwich peninsula, on the Tide, which has been dubbed “London’s first-ever riverside linear park”. It has art installations, exhibits, sculptures by world-renowned artists, and the festival itself will include such things as live music and spoken word, talks and performances – and much more besides. With 5 days to immerse yourself in this brand new park, which is a marvel in and of itself, we would wholly recommend that you at the very least take a stroll through the park during the Turning Tides festival!

Street Feast

As the name quite clearly suggests, this festival has been built from the ground up for those people who just love their food! It will be held across four different locations in London; Lewisham, Canary Wharf, and Canada Water. With a huge range of different markets that will themselves be playing host to a variety of different foods and cuisines from all over the world, if you love your food, we just know that you will love this free festival. You can also expect a lot of live music, as well as no shortage of DJs playing a range of different genres and music styles.

The Lambeth County Show

This is the perfect free festival for all the family to attend. Taking place in Brockwell Park, the Lambeth County Show returns for its 45th year. This is a very popular free festival and for good reason – expect around 100,000 people to be in attendance! This festival is widely regarded as one of the best free family festivals in the country. There will be musicians and bands playing and performing the very best in jazz, dub, folk, choir and soul and much more besides. There will also be everything that you would usually expect from a traditional country show, including flower and plant/garden stalls, sheep and owl displays, arts and crafts activities and countless food vendors serving up some of the best street food around. With a mix of local and recognised talent, you won’t be disappointed with the quality of this free festival!
